Fish Reports October 2001

st Although fishing has been awsome all last week with the dolphin biting fabulously things were slow today. We got a couple kings and a huge spanish mackerel on the reef but that was it. I expect the offshore fishing to continue to be good about seven miles out. This is the month I look forward to what I consider the official start of sailfish season! It certainly is not the best month for them but if you have the fever and want to dedicate some time to it I'm sure we can get one on the line for you. Give us a call it is also our slowest month for business so expect us to have an opening for you if you want to come last minute.

rd We had a six hour charter today which I think is the perfect legth. It gives us time to compleatly explore severel types of fishing. We went offshore early and caught some really big dolphin around thirty pounds. Although we could have continued cathing these fish we all decided to go in and try to catch a sail on the kite. The winds were out of the east and conditions were just about perfect. Although no sails showed we got to watch an enourmous explosion on the long kite bait. Kite baits are kept right on the surface splashing loke wounded fish. The fish went deep and faught hard and we guessed right that it was an enormous blackfin tuna. A great day for our goup of stranded Newport sailors.

th-7th I went out of town for a few days and just got back from NJ. While I was away I missed seven four hour trips of fishing. The Hooked up caught a lot of king mackerel on the reef and a few nice dolphin offshore. It seems by yesterday (the 7th) the kings were snapping best with good catches by Taco and the other guys at the dock too. Congrats to the newlyweds Scott And Debbie Macdonald!.

th Yes the Kings are biting and we went out and caught a bunch with our new friends from Great Britain. We also got a couple of dolphin in the deep, some spanish mackerel and a nice wahoo. Wahoo are the fastest fish in the sea and this was a beautiful one 42" long. This cool fish is going to make a wonderful trophy for our forign friends.

th-11th Horribly windy and rainy conditions prevail. No one has made it out in three days but good news! Tommorrow is supposed to be nice so give us a call!

th Today we had four swedish dudes out with us. These guys can really have a good time. We caught tons of small ones but could not get the big ones to bite. We did get to witness an awsome sight- four sailfish balling bait offshore. We stopped and threw a couple of live ballyhoo at them but we couldn't get their attention. The sails are definitly here though!

th Ah its saturday! That means the slow business of the week is over and we got to go fishing twice today. In the morning fishing was a little slow but we caught some nice bonitos to bend the rod. We went back out in the afternoon with our minds set to catch a sailfish. A nice edge in 150 feet of water looked real good and we got the bite. After a good twenty minute fight with lots of leaping and long runs we got the fish to the boat to let it go. It was a real beauty too, a first for the mate Stu who was working the cockpit with me as Taco had off today. It was also our angler Johns' first and although we threatned to throw him in.....we let him go too.

th We had some north Jersey folks on the boat today for an eight hour trip. Some kings were biting on the reef on the troll. Offshore some tiny dolphin were the only game we could find. Our best bite came on the live bait in the afternoon where we caught a real beauty of a barracuda.

th One lone man chartered us this afternoon and he had five sailfish on!! Twice he had double headers and really had his hands full. Live mullet were the trick to success today. We knew they were coming and here they are, good bye summer-hello sailfish. Time for a cold one.

th We were all set to go out and the charter no-showed us today. What a terrible thing to do.

nd-30th We are in the boat yard to get a brand new paint job.
