Fish Reports January 1st Happy New year!! Today a some revelers came out and had some fun with us. We got a couple of king mackerel which we caught using live "bullets" which we call small bonitos a member of the tuna familly. 2nd We had an all day trip today and caught what may very well be the largest sailfish we may get all year, and here we are 2 days in. It was over eight feet long at 93 inches. The first week of January is usually the best week of sailfishing all year so lets see what happens. Time for a cold one!. 4th Whoa what a strange day! Baitfishing conditions being tough we managed to catch one live bait. As fate would have it this bait would be eaten or attempted to be, by three sailfish. Not his lucky day. Our bullet survived to sail attacks to be eaten by the third. This was another huge fish. After fighting it for twenty minutes or so we noticed a couple of weekend warriors in a little rabalo edging towards us-actually they were the only other boat in the ocean that day. They considered themselves fisherman but had no clue. Although we told them on the radio and then yelled to thenm from boat to boat to tell them we had a fish on they just kept coming right on by the boat, even though they had a downrigger down. Needless to say they cut our fish off with either their downrigger or their props. What a bunch of inconsiderate losers. 5th In the morning we got the hard luck guys from yesterday out and caught them that sailfish. After such an ordeal they felt it was appropriate to mount it and thats what we did. 6th Today we got a saifish and some dolphin. 8th Fishing was a little slow today but late in the day conditions looked to be improving for tommorow. .10thGreat day of fishing! Father and son team tackled a double header of sailfish to highlight the day. Hopefully the sails will continue. 11th The sailfish bite is going off in 130 feet of water just about everywhere. We released two today and caught some kings. All were caught slow trolling live bait as there is no wind for the kite. 12th We needed to catch some sailkfish today and couldnt get a bite. The only consolation is no one could get one as the bite shut off. Sorry Pete. 13th Since sailfish arent around we did some bottom fishing today. Some nice golden amberjacks were around but otherwise fishing was slow. 14th We had a nice familly with some little kids on board. Most of the trip we catered to the little ones and kept them interested catching small fish on the bottom and mackerel at the buoy. 18th Bob and Barb from PA were out with us today and caught a couple of really nice fish. A big AJ from the botttom and a beautiful trophy sailfish. Good going guys! Time for a cold one!. 19th Ive never seen a warsaw grouper like the one Pat English and crew caught today> 58 pounds of it. Nice work. 20th Another strange fort lauderdale catch was made on the Hooked Up today. A twenty pound Red Snapper. What a cool fish. Bottom fishing has been good to us between 200-300 feet of water.. 21th Sticking to the wreaks we caught another big warsaw grouper today aroun 40 pounds. 22th Today Taco and I caught the biggest Golden Amberjack either of us have ever seen. It was 71 inchees long and about 115 pounds. What an amazing fish. It faught for 45 minutes and whipped all three of our anglers on the boat several times over. We also caught some other nice ones too. 23th Just off the reef sailfish are around and plenty of them. Live bait has been kind of tough to come by but has been the ticket. Buy those gogs if you can afford them it may make all the difference in your trip. 24th With some nice baby tinker mackerel for bait we set out to get a trophy for our customers in the morning. The sailfish were willing to oblige and we got a nice big one! In the afternooon we did some bottom fishing on the reef and caught some nice vermillion snappers. 25th No wind no bites yuck 26th We ran way down soth today, stopping to pick up a couple of kings on the way in 100 feet of water. Down off hallendale we found the bottom fish biting but had trouble getting them off the wreaks. We did get some nice Aj's though. 27th I was off today but Taco and Cove caught a huge hammerhead shark. Nice work. 29th On a swordfish trip we got a nice one offshore about twenty miles. Swordfishing is good here year round now but you have to go at night. Call and ask about swordfish charters! |
